I'm going to assume this is a rhetorical question.
If I had to truly answer this, it would include the man-made social construct or G-d's commandement. Not even gonna' go there. The treatise I could write!
This one's easy: marriage is when two people who really care for each other decide to get a good night's sleep instead.
